Announcing 2011 Summer Service Project - School Kits for Kids!

It is with joy and excitement that we share an exciting new partnership project happening in the Nebraska Synod in 2011!  Nebraska Women of the ELCA, Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries and Lutheran World Relief are embarking on a project to create 8,000 school kits for children in need. These kits will support the educational efforts of many throughout the world, and we want to invite you and your congregation to participate!

As you may know, Nebraska Synod Women of the ELCA has long been supportive of the efforts of Lutheran World Relief through Quilt and Kit ministries. These programs are much needed in underdeveloped parts of the world and make a big difference for many people. And, as you also may know, Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries recently completed an enormous project to assemble 32,000 health kits for victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. The health kit project, also done in partnership with Lutheran World Relief, was unprecedented in scope and garnered much media attention (see story on next page). We are proud of the combined efforts of the Nebraska Synod in supporting global outreach.

Dave Coker, NLOM Executive Director, shares, “We learned so much about the importance of a significant stewardship project last summer and really wanted to make this component a consistent part of our summer camping experience. This will be a very exciting undertaking for all involved. We are thrilled to take on a project of this size that captures the spirit of love throughout our synod.”

There are several ways that you can help. First, each congregation in the Nebraska Synod is asked to collect and donate supplies for these kits. Check with your church office and find out what you can donate. Next, monetary gifts are invited to help fill in the gaps of supplies.
