Leadership Camp Provides High Schoolers with Support, Skills to Grow

Updated: Nov 20, 2023

“I am very thankful for the experiences that I was given through Leadership Camp,” Drew Whitney reflected. “This summer just cemented my love for camp.”

Drew was one of seven high schoolers who participated in the inaugural session of Leadership Camp. She explained that the group had a strong connection

from the start, building friendships quickly. She said the group wanted “to take on the position of a leader at camp, and understood that we would need to support each other

to do the best we could in taking on our new roles.”

It didn’t take long for the group of Leaders In Training to integrate with the Summer Ministry Team.

“The Summer Ministry Team treated all Leaders In Training as equals and were trusting in us to step up as a leader,” Drew continued. “They helped us all grow while still providing the essential support that we needed to succeed.”

Drew’s advice to high school students considering whether or not to apply for Leadership Camp 2024 is to go for it! “There is a huge support system that is more than willing to support you and help you become a better leader at camp.”

One of the most amazing aspects of Leadership Camp is that the cost ends up being free for those who complete the program! The initial education week costs $500 per Leader In Training, then $250 is returned for each practicum week the Leader In Training completes.

Once they’ve completed the program, if interested in working more of the summer, the Leader in Training could be hired on for additional weeks. Five of this year’s seven participants worked additional weeks after completing Leadership Camp.
